revdorothyl: missmurchsion made this (Donna Super Temp)
Okay, so it's been six months since I last posted anything, anywhere, pretty much. And I'm sorry for that.

Here's a quick rundown of some of the highlights:

Following my mother's sudden and totally unexpected death in early February, I decided to move back to Wisconsin (where I haven't lived since the 1980s) to be near my elderly father (who relied on my mother for a LOT, including bill-paying, financial planning, social life, food procurement and preparation, managing medications, driving further than a few blocks from their apartment, etc.).

My brother and sister were both surprisingly helpful in joining with me to take care of our father, and in helping me to finally pack up or get rid of the contents of my house in Tennessee, so I could put my house there on the market (after some repairs overseen by the real estate agent, it sold in a day and a half, so it's possible I under-priced it, but it's been great to have those mortgage payments off my back).

Moving into my sister's little house in Milwaukee has proven to be a surprisingly healthy change for me. My sister has been great about making room for me and what remains of my 'stuff', even going so far as to rearrange the living room and kitchen to include some of my favorite pieces of furniture, cookware, and wall hangings. Together, we put in quite a bit of garden this year, and we now have tomatoes of various colors and sizes coming out of our ears. (I hope to have pictures to post soon.)

I've particularly enjoyed the fact that there's an Aldi's food store AND a budget (two-dollar admission) movie theater within five minutes' drive of my new home, plus a county-wide library system through which I've been able to borrow all the seasons of TV shows like Dexter and True Blood and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries on DVD.

I don't have a job yet, but I'm doing some substitute preaching (though after falling from a raised pulpit at the church I was serving this past Sunday and finishing the rest of the service on what turned out to be a broken ankle, I may not be physically capable of doing much subbing for the next couple of weeks).

So, except for the broken ankle and current lack of mobility, life is going okay for now. We all still miss my mother every day, but we've drawn closer to one another and made some positive changes in all our lives as we deal with our loss.
