The case of the lost icon

The Angel-and-Spike "What else are we gonna do?" AtS "Hellbound" icon that [livejournal.com profile] keswindhover made for my birthday in 2005 (commemorating the title of my "Slayage" conference paper presentation in 2004) is missing.

It's still listed among my choices on LJ, but the picture is missing.

Has anyone else experienced a disappearing icon picture? Or does anyone have an idea of why only this one userpic might've been altered against my wishes?

Failing that, I'll have to beg [livejournal.com profile] keswindhover and [livejournal.com profile] missmurchison to search their old computer files and see if either of them has a copy that I could re-upload (Kes made the icon, but my 'thank you' entry from January of '05 noted that Miss M had helped to downsize it a bit to fit LJ's limits).

Darn! I really liked that icon, and it's not as if I'm anywhere close to exceeding the number of userpics I'm allowed here on LJ.

It's LJ being stupid. It'll be back.

Arrgh!

Well, at least that's some comfort!

I had LJ suddenly change the icon on my most recent post. One moment it was Angel puppet and the next it was my default icon. It had me convinced that someone had hacked into my account so I immediately went to change my password and make sure that nothing had been deleted.

I hope you get your icon back back.

[livejournal.com profile] elisi says it's just LJ being stupid, and my icon picture will come back. I live in hope!

I've had that happen a few times. I just changed my default to one that worked, and a couple days later my pic was back, and I re-defaulted. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I guess I'll just have to wait and hope for the 'Second Coming of the Lost Icon' (which really sounds like something Dan Brown would try to turn into a badly written novel or an interminable movie, but never mind!).

Thanks for the reassurance. :)

I have one (this one) that disappears on occasion, no idea why, but it comes back. *shrug* Live in hope :)

If it doesn't show up I'll just make it for you again - I'm actually a lot better at icon making now, so it will be less blurry.

I finally found a copy of the original icon (I thought I'd lost it on my home computer, but apparently it survived several migrations on my work computer and was safely hidden away), but even though I can clearly see the picture in my files, when I added it to my userpics all over again with a different comment, LJ says I've successfully added it but still shows no picture.

Oh, well . . . ! At least I know it's not lost forever!

Thanks!

It's happened to me too. Once my default icon changed to something that I'd never seen before. It came back eventually too.

I sometimes suspect LJ does this on purpose.

Thanks!

I hope it comes back soon, because this is just too weird. No matter how I rename the icon picture and try to re-load it, LJ always sticks it in the same spot and shows it as a non-existent picture, even though it's a perfectly good picture in my file copy.

Arrgh!
