revdorothyl: missmurchsion made this (HellBound)

Just a quick note to say that, fortunately, my transmission held out on the journey to and from church yesterday, and the service went well. The church people had a lot of fun asking me if I'd had to rely on the kindness of bikers to get there, before worship, and afterwards they fed me lunch in the church basement (including home-made strawberry ice cream with dessert -- yum!), and in between my sermon and the hymns and prayers of the congregation all came together beautifully (I'm not being immodest, since I can't really take credit for any of that).

However, during the last leg of the journey home (the last 20 minutes or so from Murfreesboro to Nashville), I had a couple of close calls, where I forgot to check my blind spot before changing lanes and twice nearly drove into someone who was already occupying that space. I couldn't imagine what had gotten into me to get so careless all of a sudden, but when I got off the freeway and thought about stopping at the grocery store before heading home, I finally realized that I was so tired that I was already having trouble keeping my eyes open and that going straight home and to bed was the only option.

Apparently, I'd been shorting myself on sleep far too often during the past couple of weeks, and though I felt fine most of the time, it all caught up with me on the drive home, after the adrenaline rush of preparing the sermon and getting there and leading worship had had time to wear off. You know you're dangerously tired when you're even too tired to realize that you're tired and shouldn't be operating heavy machinery until it's almost too late!

Still not quite operating at full speed, but at least I got almost seven hours of sleep last night, which is better than I've been doing most nights.
