Actually, this makes sense in a way that's...no, it actually makes a lot of sense. The grieving Spike in the Gift is definitely a pieta. And, let's face it...Spike was the woman in Spuffy season 6; I've heard many female fans say this. (I don't want to take credit for an idea that's not mine.)
