I'm sorry you've had such a tough time of it. I think it's incredibly easy to catch gastrointestinal bugs in the summer, because food can go bad so quickly.

I hadn't considered the heat factor, until just now, but that may be part of what's keeping me from regaining my appetite: with as horribly hot and humid as it's been this week (it feels at least 20 degrees hotter than the thermometer says), the thought of heavy food -- or any food! -- during the day just turns one's stomach. Who wants to burn calories and make more body heat?

Regarding food going bad, it occurs to me that the deviled eggs and potato salad I ate for lunch on Sunday may have spent more time than was strictly good for them (and their mayonnaise) in people's hot cars before getting to the church's refrigerator! Hmmm . . . !
