Brief Update

Hurray! According to Mom's e-mail (sent late last night), Dad came through his knee surgery yesterday afternoon with flying colors.

I wouldn't have worried so much, ordinarily, except that Dad hates to go under anesthesia, and he just had that pacemaker put in three weeks ago, and he was talking an awful lot about his own death and how it would affect the family finances when he was here over Thanksgiving. He was depressed at still being so short of breath and unable to do much, which I understood, but still -- you never know. People DO die unexpectedly from relatively minor surgery, if their spirits are too low or they're too afraid, which is why the anesthesiologist always meets with the patient ahead of time, to make sure they're likely to wake up again after being put under.

Now, I can go back to grading final exams.

Oh! And I can also record over "Earthsea", which I taped the first part of last night, since what I've read on LJ this morning (including Ursula K. LeGuin's understandably heated response to insult being added to the injury the movie producers had already done to her novels, at http://www.ursulakleguin.com/Earthsea.html, and [livejournal.com profile] randomways' blow-by-blow review) has assured me that trying to watch the tape, or tune in for the second installment, would only be a tragic waste of my time. So, two hours saved already today!

And I don't have to write something about the intriguing and darker developments on "Justice League Unlimited" these last two weeks (the episodes Ultimatum and Dark Heart), since I discovered that [livejournal.com profile] buffyannotater has already done that with far greater depth than I could have hoped for. That's at least another hour saved.

Amen to the "Hitchhiker's Guide" prayer! And thanks for your kind words.

You're welcome, and on tangenital but connected topics, I quote TV Guide online for you:

SG-1 returns to finish out its eighth season on Jan. 21, when it will take over the 8 pm/ET time slot to accommodate the addition of Battlestar Galactica to the net's lineup at 10.

Oh - and I understand Ben Browder of Farscape fame will be in SG1!

Always look on the bright side of life!

That's the spirit! Thanks for reminding me of all the pretty good stuff to look forward to on the Sci-Fi channel. And I hadn't heard about Ben Browder guesting on SG1, so "Woo-hoo!"

Apparently he's going to be a regular. I plan to read [livejournal.com profile] x_h00ine's Stargate summary and ponder actually watching it.
