Reprinted from an email I just received (and yes, I did lodge a comment, including the disturbing information I'd gleaned from this morning's NPR news, about the rise in ocean acidity and its effect on the marine food chain ):

Friday is the last day to voice your opinion on whether the EPA -- the Environmental Protection Agency -- should regulate carbon dioxide pollution, the primary cause of the climate crisis. This is a big deal.

The EPA is taking public comment, before making a ruling.

Of course, special interests -- like the oil and coal lobbies -- are working overtime to defeat a positive ruling and have already gotten thousands of comments submitted in opposition.

Most people don't know about this opportunity for public comment, so your voice can make a real difference. And with a new president in the White House, it's likely that someone will actually be listening. Submit your public comment to the EPA here

Thanks. Why is it that LJ is only place I ever hear about goverment agencies taking public comment on policy changes? The newspapers and tv are so cluttered with entertainment you can barely find news.

I know! I get all my news from NPR these days, but I still only find out about opportunities to let government know where I stand on things from having gotten myself on the "MoveOn.org" email list, from which I've also gotten on some other mailing lists that actually give me information I'm glad to have, like this one from "The We Campaign" (info@powerforamerica.org) or the "Matthew 25 Network" that focuses on food and shelter for the homeless.
