I'm trying to work up my courage for driving to Iowa tomorrow (first all-day drive I've attempted since October of 2007, so I'm a bit nervous), as the first leg of my journey to WriterCon in Minneapolis -- eventually -- on Thursday. Wish me luck, un-destructed interstates, and sane fellow drivers!

Good luck! :) Have fun, and don't forget road-trip music!

Thanks! I feel that I did have good luck yesterday, since I survived a tire blow-out on the interstate, and was then able to find some good Samaritans at a Ford dealership who called all over their tiny town to find some tires to fit my car, and helped me change the flat for the spare tire.

Surely it's the other road users that should fear you?

Have a safe drive, and squish Miss Murchison for me when you get there.

Miss Murchison has been suitably squished (I didn't arrive until this morning, since I had a front tire blow out on the interstate yesterday, which delayed my journey somewhat!).

Bloody hell. I am glad you are now safe and well in Iowa.

Did you have to change your wheel on the hard shoulder of an interstate?

Nope -- the VERY nice men at the Tuscola, Illinois Ford dealership (3rd place in that town that I stopped, looking for assistance, after limping off the interstate on an increasingly flat and wobbly tire -- which had a big part of the tread hanging off, but the leak was somewhat slowed by high speed and heat on the highway) got out their big car-jack and changed it for me, neat as you please, and even pointed out that my spare was also flat, so they filled it up with air, before sending me another mile or so to the one place in the area (they'd made several phone calls on my behalf) that had the right size tires in stock.

Please do! I haven't had time to really catch up on LJ yet, but I'm hoping to friend you and other neat folks I met at the con, as well!

Sweet! Done! Work is slow this week, which is the only reason I'm all caught up. ;-)
