More on "Stargate: Lost in Space"

Upon further consideration, maybe what bugged me the most about the SGU premiere last Friday was the difficulty I had investing in the characters and the story, because of the constant flashbacks, cutting into what passed for forward momentum in the storyline every few minutes.

I'd have been happier, I think, with one LONG flashback, just after the opening scene of everybody hurtling through the 9-chevron gate, in order to pick up those weeks? months? days? (I wasn't at all sure of the chronology of anything in the flashbacks) of backstory on all the characters in some kind of consistent manner, in order to allow me to learn to care about them, before they arrive in the dark, Ancient ship and start verbally tearing at each other out of stress and fear.

True -- watching people behaving badly under the most stressful of circumstances (no matter how understandable their responses might be) doesn't incline me to like them much, though Scott DID come off well under those circumstances. Maybe they wanted to leave plenty of room for people to grow INTO heroes over time, but without at least a few more likable characters in the here-and-now, it's hard to work up much interest.
