Better late than never, I guess.

It's only been ALMOST three years since I started working here full-time and got my own electronic key, and therefore technically had access to the company fitness center (except that nobody told me where it was or mentioned that to me), and it's only been ALMOST two years since I moved from my apartment into a duplex and started having to mow the lawn, etc., and somehow stopped finding the time to walk for exercise, as I'd been accustomed to doing ever since I moved to Nashville.

And it's only been two weeks since I finally remembered to bring sneakers and a work-out shirt to work with me, so that I wouldn't have any excuse not to go over there to use the exercise equipment after work.

And it's only been 10 years (more or less) since I last used Nautilus weight-training equipment.

But tonight, I did change into my sneakers and T-shirt, and I DID walk across the rooftop parking lot to the fitness center and locker rooms. And I found nobody else there at 6:40 PM (which was a relief, because the entire wall of mirrors was hard enough on my ego -- how did I not notice I'd gotten so fat around the middle, where I've never tended to particularly build up fat before?), so I had fun working long-unused muscles with very wimpy amounts of weight (nobody to impress, after all), discovering the extra-wide-seat reclining exercise bicyle with the excellent view of the closed captions on the TV and the cross-country-skiing machine right behind it, and decided to stay the heck away from the treadmills from now on, since the only one of the three I could get to work at all wouldn't turn off when I expected it to (I left a bit of elbow skin on that very dirty rubber tread).

Now it's time to head home, where maybe tomorrow's weather will encourage me to get out and walk to the nearby park, at least.

One fortunate side-effect of being back to no computer at home (the Dell Inspiron laptop I bought from Amazon crashed and kept crashing the sixth time I used it, so I sent it back and was pleased to receive a full refund) is that at least I don't have the fascinating and addictive world of online fanfic to tempt me from the path of pedestrian righteousness!

I'm actually looking forward to rediscovering what slightly achy 'day-after' muscles feel like in the morning!

That's awesome, good for you. Sounds like you have a great gym at work - ours is pretty pathetic, but at least I'm doing something!

Good for you! I've taken the week off, but now I'm looking forward to getting back into it.

:) Do you own a bike? That is always fun exercise.

I haven't owned a bike for many years now, and I was never much good at bike-riding in hilly terrain (which is pretty much all Nashville is -- lots of hills of various sizes) even as a kid. For now, I think I'll stick with the stationary bike in the gym (with the extra-wide seat to accomodate MY extra-wide seat!).

But thanks for the tip and the encouragement!

It doesn't matter how long you've been away. All that matters is that you've started. Onwards to good health!

Congratulations on getting back into exercise, and thank you for the virtual gift. It's always good to hear from you.

Thanks! The muscle soreness didn't hit until the wee hours of Sunday morning, but it wasn't bad even then (proof, perhaps, that I hadn't pushed myself as hard as I might have), and I brought extra work-out clothes with me to work today, so I'd have no excuses at all not to keep up.
