that you have to do that in academic settings? Take something you're really passionate about and make it dull and lifeless so that others can be bored to tears by it? But God forbid you should write about your subject the way you feel about your subject... That and there's always that niggling feeling that you're doing something wrong if you're really enjoying your work. It can't be respectable work if you think it's fun, right? At least that's how I've always felt about those things.
