revdorothyl: missmurchsion made this (Moving Nausicaa)

I couldn't afford the time or money to get tickets for the whole slate of Studio Ghibli films that the local art-house theater is starting today, but I did buy the packet of 5 movie tickets, which should allow me to see some of my favorite older Miyazaki films on the big screen for the first time, and perhaps take in one of the films I haven't seen before.

At this point, I'm planning to see Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, and then perhaps Whisper of the Heart. I feel kind of guilty for ditching Kiki's Delivery Service from my viewing plan, but somehow I don't feel as strongly the need to see that one on the big screen (and I've got it on VHS in the subtitled version and on DVD in the dubbed version).

Now that's the sort of film festival I could get behind.

You're welcoime. :D

Anyone lucky enough to have a Studio Ghibli film festival in their area should take full advantage, we felt.

Ooh, lucky! I've only seen the newer films on the big screen. I'd love to see "Totoro" in the theater.

That's my feeling exactly! I saw Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, and The Secret World of Arrietty on the big screen, but everything before Mononoke or anything since then that didn't get widely released in US theaters, I've only seen on the small screen, if at all.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (dubbed version) was wonderful this noon, and I'm hoping to take in two more films tomorrow afternoon.

Whisper of the Heart is a sweet movie but I don't like it as much as the others in your line up. I think Spirited Away is my absolute favorite but My Neighbor Totoro is a very close second. Miyazaki is an absolute genius and I love all of his stuff. :)
