revdorothyl: missmurchsion made this (Spike Xmas)

In spite of what the weather channel is showing me of gosh-awful messes of snow in Indiana and Kentucky (or rather because it doesn't look like I can expect any better driving conditions tonight or tomorrow, when the rain down here may have turned to sleet and snow as well), I'm going to try to get on the highway by noon today. I'll try to post tomorrow sometime, if (or rather, when) I've reached the parents' house safely.

Meanwhile, if any of you get a spare moment, please say a prayer or think good thoughts or send positive energy out there for me and all the other drivers trying to be with their family and friends over the next few days. Here's hoping we all reach our destinations safely . . . and with a minimum of ill temper!

I will send good thoughts, positive energy, and hopes that you remember there is a house in Iowa where you will be welcome tonight if you can't make it all the way up to Wisconsin.

I'm safe at my parents' house now, but I only just arrived within the last hour. If I'd headed straight for Iowa, instead of for Wisconsin, when I left Nashville, I might just possibly have made it. But it would still have been very chancey, 'cause I-24 through Kentucky to southern Illinois turned into a snowy mess, also, and I heard they had two feet of snow in Paducah by the time I turned on the weather channel in my motel room Wednesday night. Likely as not, I'd have ended up side-swiped outside of Paducah, instead of Louisville!

I'd been hoping to visit Iowa on my way back, but now that my car's in a garage south of Louisville, I'll have no choice but to return by that route, also, so that I or whoever drives down with me can pick up that car and drive it home. Rats!

*hugs*

Don't you know that you're not allowed to scare your friends like this?

I'm just glad you're okay.

"Don't you know that you're not allowed to scare your friends like this?"

I'm so very sorry! I have sinned! But I know you'll forgive me anyway.

I'm very glad to be okay, also. It took me a while Wednesday night to remember how close to death I'd felt during the spin-out, but when I did, the fact that my trip was spoiled and I had all those problems with my car really paled in comparison. Nothing like a life-and-death scare to restore perspective!

Hope you're having an uneventful Christmas at home with Mr. M!

Oh dear, I'm incredibly worried about you, Revdorothy, the news is showing all sorts of mayhem in the midwest. I hope you've reached your destination safely.

Your fears were only too well-founded! It was tense going from Nashville to the outskirts of Louisville, where the rain had long since turned to snow and ice, and there I got side-swiped by an SUV in a spin. Prayers and good thoughts must've helped, 'cause when her monster slammed my little Buick off the road and across the median, I thought for sure I was gonna end up being hit by the South-bound traffic. Instead, my front tires came to rest on the near shoulder of the south-bound lanes, and I wasn't harmed really (physically, anyway). Only my car was smashed up. I'm about to post the details of "how I got to Milwaukee after all," now. Thanks for your well-placed concern!

I'm glad you're alright, Revdorothy. [huge sigh of relief] I'm sorry about your car, though, but better the car than you.

You'll be in my thoughts on your return trip.

Happy Christmas.
