Well, I'm back, able to access my university webmail with no problems this evening, so I don't know what was going on last night (a glitch in their system, or maybe my complaint got them to un-flip whatever switch they'd flipped prematurely to cut me off). However, I've taken it as a warning to go ahead and make my own email arrangements, with plenty of back-up options, in case this happens again next week, or even next month.
Meanwhile, I'm increasingly thankful for the warm and wonderful people on LJ, who've been giving me loads of emotional and moral support, even when they didn't know what was going on with me and my conflict with my university (which has been resolved so that, if I finish and defend my dissertation within the next 12 months, I can still come out of this with my doctorate, but in the meantime they're not going to make it easy or comfortable for me -- which may be a big old blessing in disguise, but for the first couple of weeks, the disguise was awfully darn good!).
Thank you all, for every kind word and thought, and please don't let me get lazy this next year, or give in to that "oh, this is hopeless, nobody wants to read what I have to say" self-defeating voice in my head.
And thanks to
keswindhover for this latest addition to the "Keep RevD's spirits up with cool new icons" campaign!

And very pleased to know that things are back to 'doable if difficult', rather than hopeless.
