Much to say about the comedy of it, and the really touching things it implies about friendship and the need for friends, but not tonight.
And on a mostly-unrelated topic, I've finally got a meeting with my advisor for Friday morning, during which I hope to get some definite deadlines that may finally get me up and running on the dissertation again.

My meeting was brief, but productive. My advisor wants my strongest 40 pages of the dissertation draft emailed to him and the rest of the committee on March 15 (doesn't have to be first chapter, just first 40 pages that I can write and feel okay about), and 40 more pages every five weeks thereafter (8 pages a week, in other words, for
me to write and them to read).
So, two days after I give my final exam in this accelerated half-semester course I'm teaching, I have 40 pages due. Just the kick-in-the-pants I needed.
