Confessions of a Liberal Puritan

I caught the premiere of "Heroes" on NBC last night (it's being 'encored' tonight at 7 PM Central for anyone who missed it), and I'm hooked. I might not have made time to see it, if I hadn't caught a very positive review in Sci-Fi Weekly's Fall Preview, but now I'm just worried that it's too interesting and entertaining to last.

As expected and forewarned by Sci-Fi Weekly, I was completely charmed by the Japanese office worker and Star Trek fan "Hiro", who can bend time and space and who interprets his experience and aspirations in terms of classic Trek language and characters. But I was also utterly charmed by the character of Mohinder Suresh, the young academic from Madras who's tracking down his father's work and trying to avoid suffering his father's fate at the hands of the mysterious "them". Not to mention, there's Adrian Pasdar and Milo Ventimiglia as brothers with possibly differing gifts but an incredible bond. In fact, I can't think of a single one of the story-lines so far introduced that I'm not eager to follow further.

Note to self: must be sure to tape next week's episode, so that nothing interferes with my ability to enjoy this crazy, hopeful, ingenious little gem as long as it lasts.
