You gotta have QUESTIONS, it seems to me, to get you out of bed in the morning and give you a reason to suffer the slings and arrows, etc. -- and not just any questions, but questions you truly care about, that interest you deeply. Questions that you're willing to take some risks to pursue.

I'm not sure if I agree with this or not, since plenty of people seem to just get on with their lives without any probing questions at all. But it must enhance your life at least (unless you are the depressing type of philosopher who decides that life is about nothing, and for nothing - in which case it probably detracts from your happiness).

Good luck with the sermon, and love the icon!

Come to think of it, I suppose what I most envy about Spike is that he doesn't NEED to question everything or analyze it to death (as I am wont to do), being able to find more than enough interest and excitement in simply BEING in the world and wading into fights with no guarantee that he'll be able to win or even survive. I never took French (Spanish, Greek, Hebrew, and German, only), so bear with me, but what would you call that gleeful attitude of Spike's? Not 'joi de vivre' (or however you spell it), but maybe 'joi de morte'?

Okay, now I'm starting to think in terms of "eros" vs. "thanatos", and the last thing any of us need right now is for me to think some more!

Anyway, thanks for your good wishes, and for your tolerant and kind friendship!
