It had great atmosphere, wonderful combination of a sort of Steam Punk vibe with supernatural/metaphysical elements and straight contemporary gadgets. The opening sequence was incredibly strong (mock me if you will, but it reminded me of the first five minutes of Triple X, which, quite honestly was some brilliant, stylish film-making) and it had a terrific combination of humor, angst, and genuinely thought-provoking material.
I don't want to say too much for fear of spoiling the ultra-pure, but I heartily agree that its "derivativeness" begins and ends with it being based on a comic book (uh and maybe a bit in the facial hair department), particularly in the area of the romantic subplot.
