After hearing this story on NPR's "Morning Edition" today, I felt obliged to bring cupcakes to work to "celebrate" the office cubicle's first 40 years of un-life.
If anyone cares, the cupcakes were a basic carrot cake box mix, with the addition of orange zest, currants, raisins, dried cranberries, and dried apricots (nearest thing to an old-fashioned fruitcake that I could come up with on short notice and still be edible -- and I'm ashamed to say I forgot to add the nuts!), with canned cream-cheese frosting, and sprinkles of candied ginger on top (to ease the upset tummies sure to result from eating my tasty, pre-packaged creations, as well as from pre-packaged cubicle life in general!).
*silence*
*crickets chirping*
Well, I thought it was a clever idea, at least!
Apparently, my co-workers just thought, "Oooh . . . cupcakes!"
