Picking up where my previous post left off, here are the remaining eleven 'days' for your enjoyment, critique, or total ignoring, as you choose.
30-day TV Meme (Days 20-30):
Day 20 - Favorite kiss -- For this one I was tempted to say something like Buffy/Spike at end of "Tabula Rasa", but upon sober reflection, and weighing in a number of factors (including the 'shock value' and 'woo-hoo value' of the kiss when it originally aired) I have to go back to the Hawkeye Pierce/Margaret Houlihan kiss at the end of the M*A*S*H series finale, which just went on and on and on . . . ! Yeah, baby!
Day 21 - Favorite 'ship -- Strictly TV? No movies or books? Yeah, it's perennially Spike/Buffy, for me, in that case. There are lots of other TV 'ships that I enjoy and love to read about in fanfic and/or watch over and over again -- many of which are non-canon 'ships like the seemingly unlikely and transgressive River/Jayne of Firefly fandom, or probably never-gonna-happen 'ships like Sheldon/Penny on TBBT, though I'm also a sucker for more canonical pairings like Sam/Jack on SG1 and Trip/T'Pol on Enterprise -- but the one that got me stirred up enough to actually start looking for internet fanfic in the first place (way back in January of 2001, when it seemed like they'd never get together on the show and I couldn't stand the tension any longer) and which has kept me on the hook ever since is Spuffy.
Day 22 - Favorite series finale -- For me, this may be a toss-up between BtVS "Chosen" and DS9's very meaty two-hour finale, although M*A*S*H also did a bang-up job of 'going out with style and substance,' way back when.
Day 23 - Most annoying character -- Of all TV series that I've watched, ever? Though there are many characters I've disliked or despised, none have ever stirred my ire and challenged my belief in a moral universe by their very survival more than Dr. Zachary Smith from the old Lost in Space series. [*shudder*]
Day 24 - Best quote -- "My life happens to, on occasion, suck beyond the telling of it" (said by Buffy to Jonathan at the climax of "Earshot").
For some reason, that quote perennially resonates with me! Although a close second would be Spike's closing song from OMWF ("Life's not a song...").
Day 25 - A show you plan on watching (old or new) -- Maybe I'll commit to watching Game of Thrones someday, when it's available free on DVD through the library, since I've only been able to catch glimpses of it during brief periods of free HBO previews. Or better yet, I'd really like to see all of Dexter someday, isntead of just the bits and pieces I get from Showtime previews or visiting with friends who have better premium channels than I do.
Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale -- This has to be the ending to season 4 of Enterprise -- possibly the worst "WTF?" season AND series finale I've seen, and something I've worked hard on deleting from my otherwise very positive memories of that final season of the least-loved Trek incarnation ever since. (See my initial reaction to that horrible, so-called 'finale' episode from 2005 here.)
Day 27 - Best pilot episode -- For my money, the pilot episode that turned me from a doubter to a true believer and fan upon first airing, and therefore my personal 'best pilot,' may be X:WP's "Sins of the Past" (see day 10b, previously).
Day 28 - First TV show obsession -- Definitely the original Star Trek (see extended explanation under day 13b, previously).
Day 29 - Current TV show obsession -- Currently in first-run episodes? Probably Grimm comes closest to this description among shows I'm currently watching 'fresh', since that's the show that I'm least willing to miss seeing. But at present it's still a long way from being an obsession like my long-time fandoms mentioned previously.
Day 30 - Saddest character death -- I'd say this would be Joyce Summers in "The Body", perhaps, in its far-reaching consequences for Buffy and the others, as well as for the fact that there was nobody and nothing to fight in order to try to prevent or avenge her death, and no sense that Joyce got to 'sell her life dearly' in heroic service to some greater cause or meaning, etc. It was just normal, senseless DEATH, of the sort that can and does happen to anybody. Tara's death might come in second in this category, although the death of Tasha Yar way back in the first season of ST:TNG was also hard to take, as I recall (but that was more for what her loss took from the series, I think, and where it indicated the series was going in terms of its female characters, than because of any great love for Tasha herself, at that point).
